Eco-Friendly Green Cookware

by Phil on February 9, 2010

As the world becomes more health conscious, eco-friendly products are rising in popularity. I am paying closer attention to the little details in my busy daily routine that have the potential to cause me, my family or the environment harm. It seems like a tall order but I believe if everyone made little changes it would make a big difference. It has to start somewhere so why not here.

New information about the dangers of plastics we expose ourselves to everyday have been circulating around for some time now. It turns out that some plastics contain Bisphenol A (and other harmful substances),  a chemical that has been linked to reproductive and fertility problems. This is especially disturbing since my family has been using the Microwave to heat food for years. It’s a fact that microwaving plastics can “leach” many harmful chemicals into your foods. In our fast paced society can you imaging how many people across the country are making this mistake every day? I’ve sworn off cooking or heating food in plastic containers, it just isn’t worth the risk to my family’s health.

This got me to thinking about the other surfaces we cook and prepare our foods with. We us a lot of non-stick Teflon cookware and it seems this also may be an unsavory way to cook. Teflon-coated metal cooking implements, when used at high temperatures, may be leaking toxins into dinner too. This is especially true if the surface gets scratched. How many people across this country are cooking with scratch Teflon? I know I was.

I don’t know about you but if found both of these issues very disturbing. Everyday, sometimes multiple times a day, my family, and families everywhere, are exposed to these harmful chemicals when cooking dinner.

I’ve found a great all natural eco-friendly cooking alternative free of all the chemicals we now know are present in other cookware. All natural, dishwasher safe, terracotta cookware made for stove-tops, ovens, and microwaves. The product is Authentic Italian Cookware hand made in Italy. Terra Allegra Imports partnered with Piral of Italy to bring these beautifully crafted cooking vessels to the United Stated. Piral is renowned for its terracotta cooking vessels used in the preparation of some of the finest regional Italian cuisine. The 1870 Collection is available in an array of dazzling colors; it can be taken directly from the oven or stovetop to serve at your table creating a beautiful presentation.

I couldn’t be happier with my Terracotta Cookware. It has inspired some really excellent cooking in my house which translates directly into family time. I feel a lot better about cooking knowing the environmentally friendly cookware is completely safe for my family.
